Google Earned $4.9 Billion In The Second Quarter
While It's Moonshot Program Lost $859 Million.
It is undeniable that Alphabet, now the parent company of Google (GOOGL) is one of the most incredible corporations of our time, that has managed to shatter expectations and general belief in the impossible time and time again but as reported by CNN Money, their coveted Moonshot program has been the greatest drag on the business as of late. Over the course of the past Quarter alone, Google's Moonshot program saw a loss of $859 million, which is up from $660 million during the same quarter last year. Over the course of accruing these incredible losses for this past quarter, the Moonshot program only pulled in $185 million of increased sales from its efforts. This sort of overspending in the face of lower reward has become a bit of a staple of the Google brand as of late, which has prompted Ruth Porat, Google's new CFO as of last year, to publicly announce that the company is still angling to be more careful with the way they are burning through money.
Of course this is not to say that Google is necessarily in any trouble, especially seeing as how it continues to hold the rank as the first or second largest company in the world, with their earnings hitting $4.9 billion during the April through June time period. but naturally investors would very much like to see some of the costs involved in programs like the moonshot segment to come down as sales increase. This program though pricey, continues to be one of the most attention grabbing aspects of the company, especially with things like their self driving cars which have been seeing incredible test results, as Google continues to be on the cutting edge of technology as a true behemoth within the tech field. IT will be very interesting to see how they continue to grow and what sort of tech they roll out with as we move toward the end of 2016.
